  1. INTRODUCTION
  2. PMJPEG is a shareware image viewer with image processing and conversion
  3. capabilities for OS/2 2.x.  PMJPEG is a port of WinJPEG to OS/2 2.x.  It is
  4. a native 32-bit PM application.
  5.  
  6. PMJPEG v.1.5 has the following features:
  7.   - display JPEG, TIFF, GIF, Targa, PCX, Windows BMP, OS/2 BMP, or PPM images
  8.   - export an image to JPEG, TIFF, GIF, Targa, PCX, Windows BMP, OS/2 BMP,
  9.     or PPM format
  10.   - capability of generating OS/2 desktop-background bitmaps that use
  11.     the system colors
  12.   - display an image in monochrome, 16 color, 256 color, hicolor, or
  13.     truecolor display modes
  14.   - display an image in full screen mode
  15.   - print an image with scaling, best proportional fit on the page, or
  16.     fit for full page
  17.   - red/green/blue or hue/saturation/brightness adjustment
  18.   - color to grayscale conversion or image negative conversion
  19.   - contrast enhancement
  20.   - gamma correction
  21.   - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip, image resizing, and
  22.     image cropping
  23.   - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, Targa, or PPM files to JPEG
  24.     File Interchange Format
  25.   - copy an image to the clipboard or paste an image from the clipboard
  26.   - slideshow: display selected files in forward, reverse, or random
  27.     order with a cycle option
  28.   - image buffering in a cyclic slideshow
  29.   - capture a window, the client area of a window, or a portion of or
  30.     the entire desktop
  31.   - support for file name extension association and starting a slideshow

  44. KNOWN PROBLEMS 
  45. There are two bugs in the 256 color ET4000 driver that comes with the
  46. OS/2 2.1 beta or OS/2 2.0 + Service Pack: 1) the driver does not stretch
  47. the bitmap correctly so the Stretch to Fit Window option does not work
  48. properly, and 2) the image under the dialog box or under the drop-down
  49. menu is not re-drawn with the right colors.  Use the Auto-Refresh option
  50. if you have the second problem.

  52. If you are using the 256 color ET4000 driver, for certain images such as
  53. 24-bit images displayed with Maximum Color Depth set to 256 colors, the
  54. text that shows the cropping dimensions is garbled by a filled box.
  55. This appears to be a bug in OS/2's palette manager or the driver.
  56.  
  57. If you are using a 256 color driver, when you exit PMJPEG, the system
  58. colors do not immediately return to normal.  The system colors are
  59. gradually restored by OS/2.   You can force the colors to change back by
  60. opening and/or closing a window, such as the window list that pops up
  61. when you hit CTL-ESC.

  64. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  65. You are free to distribute this shareware version of PMJPEG as long as the
  66. following conditions are met:
  67.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  68.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  69.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  70.      is permitted.
  71.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  72.      without permission from the authors.

  75. HOW TO REGISTER   
  76. If you use PMJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  77. PMJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest version of
  78. PMJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we will put as
  79. many as we can fit on 2 720k 3 1/2" floppies, on 1 1.44M
  80.  3 1/2" floppy, or on 4 360k 5 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered
  81. version does not have the reminder-to-register screen at the start.

  83. The registration fee is only $20.  MA residents, add 5% sales tax to the
  84. registration fee.  US residents, add $4 for shipping and handling;
  85. non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.   If you want PMJPEG
  86. e-mailed to your account instead of having it physically mailed to you,
  87. there is no extra shipping charge.

  89. Updates are free but the shipping charge described above applies to updates.
  90. Users who register PMJPEG and provide an e-mail address will automatically
  91. receive updates via e-mail.
  92.  
  93. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  94. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your information,
  95. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  96. called "uuencode".  If your mail system rejects large messages, we will
  97. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  98. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a text editor before
  99. you can decode them.  Compuserve, for example, does not permit large
  100. e-mail messages.  Also, the uuencoded file is rather large; it is
  101. approximately 300k for PMJPEG v.1.5.  Compuserve users may find it less
  102. expensive to receive PMJPEG via U.S. Mail.

  104. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  105. returned.

  113. Registration of PMJPEG is based on "personal usage."  Corporate or
  114. organizational users must register all copies used on an individual
  115. basis; a specific person (name) must be explicitly assigned to each
  116. registrant who will be provided with a personalized copy of PMJPEG.
  117. Registration grants a specific person (not an organization or
  118. corporate entity) the right to use PMJPEG.

  120. Although we will try to mail your copy of PMJPEG 1-3 weeks after
  121. we receive your registration, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for
  122. delivery.
